About WSD Fire & Electrical
WSD is a commercial fire and electrical contractor headquartered in Bromsgrove and operating UK-wide. Founded in September 2021 by Luke Wellings, Ben South and Stuart Dodson, we deliver every fire safety and electrical specialism in-house for commercial, industrial, residential, healthcare and critical infrastructure clients.
Why we started WSD.
Stuart, Ben and Luke had worked together for the previous ten-plus years at the same fire and electrical contractor. In September 2021 they left to set up WSD, between them carrying more than forty years of fire-safety and electrical industry experience.
The decision was simple. The three of them wanted to build a contractor that could take on serious commercial work without losing the direct relationship between the people winning a project and the people delivering it. That meant keeping every discipline in-house and keeping the directors close to every job.
The plan was straightforward: build a fire and electrical contractor that does the full range of disciplines in-house, that’s small enough that the directors stay close to the work, and that’s structured so the people delivering projects can take direct responsibility for them. No subcontractors covering the gaps. No commercial layer between the engineer and the decision.

WSD now delivers projects across the whole of the UK from a Bromsgrove head office, with our own engineers covering every discipline we offer. The scale handles serious commercial work: multi-tenant buildings, large estates, data centres and critical infrastructure. We stay close enough to every project that, when a building manager has a question that needs an answer, it doesn’t have to travel through a department to find one.
What hasn’t scaled is the distance between you and the people running the work. Stuart still oversees commercial operations. Ben still heads the maintenance division. Luke is still actively involved in project delivery. If something on your project needs attention, you don’t have to navigate through a customer success team to reach the person who can decide.
This is the trade-off we’ve made consciously. Not a small business that can’t handle large projects, and not a large contractor where everyone you talk to is a layer removed from the work. The middle ground, deliberately.

A few principles that run through every WSD project.
Every project in-house
We don’t subcontract specialist disciplines out. The fire alarm engineer, the trace heating designer, the gas suppression commissioner, the emergency lighting installer — they’re all WSD employees. One contractor, one accountability chain, one engineer relationship across every system in your building.
Manufacturer agnostic, by design
Different projects call for different manufacturers. Where the specification names a system we install it. Where the choice is open, we recommend the best fit for the application and explain the reasoning.
Clear, jargon-free reporting
Every visit documented, every defect photographed, every report written in plain English. Time-stamped digital records that your facilities team, your insurer and your inspector can all open without needing us to explain them.
Honest about boundaries
We don’t do Fire Risk Assessments in-house; we arrange them through accredited partners. We don’t operate 24/7 emergency call-out; we cover reactive work during office hours. Where WSD has a limit, we say so up front rather than wasting your time.

Thermal insulation and lagging work on WSD projects is delivered by our sister company, WSD Thermal Services Ltd, who cover the UK from London and Birmingham.
